right here is the issue

i have a solid concrete floor in a 1960's property. This floor is to be covered in solid oak parquet but i need to bring the height up by about 10-12 mm so that the floor level when the parquet is down will match the height of the floor in the kitchen.

whats the best way to raise the height?

Read various posts but as normal, one person says one thing and then somebody else shoots them down.

is there some form of rigid insultaion that can be used? can the parquet go on top of this? if so whats best method of fixing

Someone suggested fixing plywood or OSB down and then laying floor on top of this.

Really open to all suggestions on this one.

On a concrete subfloor you should use a smoothing compound ideally.

If installing a solid you should first put down a surface DPM and then you can use most smoothing compounds out there providing its strength is above 25nm.

Also make sure your subfloor has a working DPM under it by testing with a hygrometer.

As for people shouting people down, you will find that the professionals on here (very few) all say the same thing. Its the DIY posts guessing the answers. I would much prefer to be told the correct way by a professional if someone had posted something wrong. You are on a DIY forum after all.

what kind of products are we talking and what sort of costs? room is 7 sq m

It would also need to be fast setting as it is a hall way and is in use a fair bit

if your subfloor has a working dpm under in then you can use a 1 coat surface dpm. This will need 1 hour to set. Then you could use a rapid set compound that would be walkable after 2-3 hours. So in total including labour time the hall way will be out of action for around 6 hours.

As for price?

7 sq'm if i was doing it from start to finish for you (the prep) i would charge approx £550 due to the depth. Normally it would be around £350.

Obviously you can do yourself a lot cheaper. Basically take off 1 days wages

You could use marmox insulation boards.

They are used under tiles and underfloor heating but nothing stopping you using them for your job.
They are cement backed insulation and come in different thicknesses starting at 4mm 6mm 10mm 12mm etc...

Use tile adhesive to fix to concrete then a 2mm screed on top, then your parquet...
