Apologies in advance if I get the terminology wrong...

I just wanted to check that my loft was ready to have its struts and Purlin removed.

1. The steels are in....
2. New joists hung off steels + on load bearing wall in middle of house.

Both Checked and passed by BC. Got told "Good job, carry on call me back when the electrics are in".

3. Purlin wall has been built on top of the steel...Fired into top of steel + bolted to rafters with dog tooth washers.
4. Collar ties(?) bolted to rafters with dog tooth washers.

Have I missed anything? Or am I now ok to remove the 4 diagonal timbers (struts?) that go from the Purlin to the central load bearing wall?
And to remove the purlin itself?

Surely, BCO would have given you the go-ahead at the last inspection?

There are too many variables to even hazard an opinion.

After all your work and expense, why not take the trouble to post pics or scanned drawings on here.

When BC came round last, the purlin wall had not been built.
All the Officer saw was the steels in place (bricked in) and the new joists hung / nailed in place.

Structurally, according to the plans, the only thing that I have left to do is to beef up the rafters. Unable to do this until the purlin is taken out....

Will get some photos up when I get a moment.

Sorry for the delay on the photos, been busy. Will try later.

"dont take the struts out til you have beefed up the rafters!"

How do I go about beefing up the rafters with the purlin in the way??

Plans state to attach 6"x1" to my existing 4"x2" rafters (BCO said he would be happy with 2"x2" glued and screwed to existing 4"x2")
Unless I'm missing something (more than likely...) Don't the diagonal struts/props need removing so I can in turn remove the purlin, then beef up the rafters??
Temporary struts maybe?

With the collars and purlin wall now firmly in place. The span the rafters are covering is 2.75m. The same as it was from original purlin to ridge.
