25mm into house

I have a 25mm blue pipe into the house in the front room under the floor. It comes through the foundations, then it changes via a 90° pushfit connector to 15mm plastic and goes under the floor to the stop tap (also pushfit) under the stairs.

Is this correct? I thought the stop tap should be straight on the end of the blue pipe?

The blue pipe is lagged and inside a black ribbed pipe.

The 15mm plastic pipe isn't lagged. Should it be? Its under the floor boards which is vented to outside.

The distance from the stop tap to the blue pipe is about 5 metres.

Im worried that if the pushfit joins fail under the floor, i'm not going to know about it for ages, and i cant use the outside stop tab in the street because i dont have a key to lift the iron lid.

The stopcock should ideally be close to where the mains enter the property. Does not matter which pipe its on.

Best practice would be to put it on the end of the blue pipe.

It would be sensible to get whatever tools you need to access the street valve!

Are there any rules about having pushfit under the floor boards?

The pipe was only fitted a couple of weeks ago to replace a lead pipe that had been crushed under the driveway.

The stop tap was moved at the same time.

I dont see any reason not to have push fit joints under a floor.

Its not ideal but those pipes are normally jointed with connectors which are virtually compression albeit with rubber rings rather than copper olives!

Should have inserts fitted in the pipe for most fittings!

Is there access to the end of the blue pipe where it turns into pushfit if you wanted to fit a valve?

I might change the 15mm to 22mm plastic in the future as we're still suffering from low flow rate when shower and toilet flushed etc which is what i'd hoped this would solve.

It has improved the flow rate a little

Just to add a little to Tony's post..The blue pipe (MDPE pipe for underground use) is lagged and in a corrugated sheath where it passes into the property because the Water Regs require it to be and it's best practice. Speedfit/pushfit connectors on water pipes are fine under a floor, if they have been installed correctly with pipe inserts/stiffeners at the unions. The 15mm pipe should have been lagged too - again best practice.

The end of the blue pipe, where it comes into the property is in the front room under the floor and carpet, so cant really have a stop tap there.

I would have thought they would have gone blue pipe right up to the stop tap under the stairs, but they didn't.

Thats what I would have done to, but running it on to an accessable location in lagged 22mm is proberbly so nearly as good I would not loose to much sleep. I would however get a key to the cock in the road.

At the moment, its unlagged 15mm.

But you said you might change it, and lagging it in a 30second £2 job.

It depends what it feeds, no point changing a few feet of 15mm before the stop cock if there is miles of 15mm after it, but if your suffering low flow between several taps making it 22mm to the split point may help.

Any pipework outside the thermal envelope of the property I.e under the floor should be lagged. That's part of the regs too. Personally I would have taken the 25mm mdpe right too the stop tap.
