Hi all,

We had a job started by a complete idiot and we're currently trying to pick up the pieces. Basically what Ive noticed is where the cable has been buried in the ground (in conduit) and come up to the wall the idiot builder has broken the wire from the conduit and then buried it in the wall again in conduit so there is a middle bit on show (as per the pictures below). Im guessing this isnt as per regulationary and was wondering is the only way to fix this rechase the wall and put the cable back into conduit - or is ther another method?

Your guessing wrong, theres nothing wrong with it (other than it looks untidy).

Thanks for the reply - even thought its not in any conduit? How come you have to run cables in conduit when running up a wall but not so when under the ground?

Excuse my ignorance - I just find it a bit strange.

You do not have to run cables in conduit, at all, up or down a wall.

"Capping" is merely there to protect the cable from plasterers' tools.
Its a nuce to have if you are pulling in replacment cables, but what's the point in a 12" wall?

Personally, I always run cables in flexy conduit when they are buried in in the floor, purely cos I dont trust labourers with wheelbarrows full of screed.

I would be more worried about what has happened to that membrane. Its supposed to be waterproof!
