Hi
I've noticed that my central heating system is coming on ok, heating up the pipe/rads/hot water etc but then after about 20 mins the circulating water is not so hot. After about another 10-20 mins the boiler fires up again and raises the water temp. This cycle continues.
As far as I can tell the system is working fine but the boiler isn't supplying hot water constantly. When in a fault state the pump is going, the Boiler On light is on, none of the other lights are on.

My suspicion is it's the boiler water Thermostat Sensor part no 230204, does this make sense. Can they fail like this ?

Thanks for any help.

Mike

That would certainly be a possibility.

But that should really be changed by a gas reg person.

It doesn't need to be, it's outside of the combustion chamber and doesn't require you to access/disturb the chamber to change it. It's dead easy to do.

Edit: Here's a pic - it's the part with the white capping.
The sensor between the flow and return is the overheat stat.

Thanks, replaced tonight and it's working great, house is warm again.
Takes longer to get the case on.

Thats the problem.

The boiler is room sealed and that part is inside the sealed combustion chamber and so a DIYer should not be opening it.

Interesting how a DIYer takes advice from another DIYer to make himself think he is safe to do it!

That is totally wrong advise and against the forum rules and potentially dangerous.

You have now encouraged the OP to do something which should have been done by an RGI.

How is it room sealed ? It's a metal case hanging on a back plate.
Installed it many years ago, this will be my second full central heating installation. It's been inspected and no complaints. I would happily install another boiler but regs say I cannot.

Agile: You can see the combustion box clips in the photo, still securely fitted.

The external casing on the Solo 2 doesnt seal anything, its just a cover?

I would normally bow to your knowledge in this forum but on this you are wrong. As others have pointed out the outer casing on this boiler is not sealed. In fact part of the front actually comes off to allow you to adjust the temperature. Again the clips for the combustion chamber are securely fastened as can be seen in the picture, they don't need to be touched to change this sensor. It's a perfectly safe procedure.

For completeness and to remove doubt, here is the external casing of a Solo 2 showing the detachable panel. You can see from the picture it seals nothing, it's just to pretty the boiler up, nothing more.

Tony strikes again , Op you are completely correct you have not breached the integrity of the combustion chamber in any way

No but he's done "work" on a gas appliance's safety controls. Shock horror if he's not "competent". Regs say he now has to do gas rates etc.
But yeah, Tony got it wrong.
Of course I never make mistkeas.

Is the Thermostat not part of the control system and not part of any safety system.

It's been an eye opener listening to this and made me think about what I'm doing so thanks.
