Programmable thermostat for Vaillant ecotec Pro 28

I have to clarify that I only want a Time controlled ON/OFF timer switch that simply On and off the boiler. I am not bothered about Temperature controlled programmer
1. Why aren't you bothered about the temperature?

2. Do you have a room thermostat?

3. If not, why not?

1. Why aren't you bothered about the temperature?
Because I can control the radiator temperature from the boiler settings when it is on.

2. Do you have a room thermostat?
I have 5 rooms, 1 kitchen, two halls and two toilets.. I would need 10 thermostats to control individual zones temperatures which I think is may be good solution for other properties for not for me..

3. If not, why not?
As above and also I want to control when the boiler is On and Off and keep the gas consumption at nearly constant rate during the year and I would only need to worry about the Cost of Gas charged by my supplier which will be handy to compare the suppliers and will help me decided whether switch supplier or not.
Also this way I do not have to worry about the fluctuations of usage because of temperature drops

As an example my Gas consumption for the last 3 year is on average 23,450 kwh per year so I am expecting about £1200 bill this year. My estimate is only realistic because of time switch control I have used.. comparing this with the temperature controlled unit like Honeywell CM921 I have estimated based last 7 days extrapolated usage the Gas consumption will shoot up to over 40,000 kwh this year and that over £2000 in extra bills...

Even though the boilers are efficient but it does not count the how long they suppose to run but when they running they suppose to be efficient.

I think these Honeywell thermostats (non of them offer more than 3 period settings) are over rated and are not efficient enough for consumers like me and I won't be surprised if they are sponsored by the Gas companies as it consume more gas then it supposed to and resulting on more dividend into shareholders pockets... Its all business...

If your not really that bothered with external controls just buy a vaillant 150 mechanical timer £40'sh ( simples )

Thanks... as @mikely answered it, I have ordered the same Grasslin FM/1 Digi 20 just waiting for it to be delivered...

I would need bit of guidance to remove the Honeywell CM921 Relay and fit that one instead.

Because I can control the radiator temperature from the boiler settings when it is on.
I see; a manual weather compensation system.

Do you have a room thermostat?

But you are controlling the 10 zones with one thermostat at the moment.

If not, why not?
As above and also I want to control when the boiler is On and Off and keep the gas consumption at nearly constant rate during the year
So you expect the gas consumption to be constant every week of the year - even in the summer when the heating is not on?

I have estimated based last 7 days extrapolated usage the Gas consumption will shoot up to over 40,000 kwh this year and that over £2000 settings
Of course you will get a silly answer if you assume the same consumption all the year round. My annual consumption, until I replaced the boiler last April, was about 22000kWh. In the winter it was about 100kWh per day and in the summer it was about 20kWh per day. If I calculate the annual consumption based on the winter figure it is 36,500 kWh per year, which is patently not correct.

1- ON 00:00 OFF 02:00
2- ON 05:00 OFF 08:00
3- ON 10:00 OFF 12:00
4- ON 16:00 OFF 18:00
5- ON 20:00 OFF 21:00
6- ON 22:00 OFF 23:00
What do you think is going to happen between 02:00 and 05:00, 08:00 and 10:00, 12:00 and 16:00, 18:00 and 20:00, 21:00 and 22:00?
No programmer or programmable stat will allow a void time setting, AFAIK. There are 24 hours in a day, not 15.

The 901 (wired) and 921 (wireless) are 24 hour programmable thermostats and allow you to set 6 time periods within 24 hours, with just the start time being set. Based on the above table of what you say you want:
Setting 1 starts at 00:00 at x degrees C
Setting 2 starts at 05:00 at y degrees C, overiding previous setting
Setting 3 starts at 10:00 at x C, overiding previous setting
Setting 4 starts at 16:00 at y C, overiding previous setting
Setting 5 starts at 22:00 at x C , overiding previous setting
That will take you through 'til 00:00, Setting 1, and the cycle starts again.

No thermostat will "close the damn boiler". Thermostats call for heat. When heat is called for by the stat, the boiler will fire up. As i said earlier, the boiler is left permanently switched on so that the programmable stat controls its on/off periods, either by time or temperature. It will not use gas, nor the pump electricity unless the stat registers that the room temp is below the required temp and calls for heat to raise the temp to the level set. When the temp is at the required level the boiler will be 'off'.

Do you not have thermostatic valves on the radiators?

Yes. How hard it is to move yourself and turn that knob...

Exactly my point. why bother... with even one.

I did not know I had to write every single detail to justify my reasons to answer your survey type question ;) ... Obviously in summer I may do not need to use the heating some days...

I have estimated based last 7 days extrapolated usage the Gas consumption will shoot up to over 40,000 kwh this year and that over £2000 settings

Again if I did not consider the weather variations i.e summar then based on my last 7 days consumption it would be £65 per week i.e £3380.. but you can I said £2000

I did not expect you to understand this last bit..

Bravo for counting the hours. the void time in the middle is as either I am not home or the house is warm enough until the next Burner start time..

You have said it yourself there are 3 pairs of On & Off settings. I hope you get it yourself instead trying to explain it to me.

Now I know why you are confused as you think by on and off I mean main power supply to Boiler On/Off ...
NO by On and OFF I mean when the boiler kicks in and start heating the radiators. obviouly boilers are always on and only use gas when the burner kicks in. .... but thanks for trying to explain it to me.

Yes all radiators has thermostatic valves... Please do not come up with something else. Isn't it obvious I am not interested... I just needed to know if I could use a simple time switch with this new boiler or not and it has been answered as YES I can. and have already ordered a digital time switch with 20 settings or I should say 40 in your case ;)

It is a shame that you have not seen the advantages of a programmable thermostat. For some reason it seems not to have worked for you. Although you still don’t seem to grasp that the six settings available on the CM921 are not 3 pairs of on and off times but six different temperature settings through the day. You will achieve the lowest gas usage by having the house just warm enough for your needs during each period of the day. A programmable thermostat is probably the easiest way of achieving that. I can’t imagine that your preferred On/ Off timer control method is going to be more efficient in gas usage and certainly not in comfort levels. If you want to use less gas, simply set the temperatures lower.

Sounds like an ideal opportunity for a weather compensated system!

Where is Alec tonight?

Fine, but you cannot have a 'void' time period.

You have said it yourself there are 3 pairs of On & Off settings. I hope you get it yourself instead trying to explain it to me.
I have never said that. There are 6 time periods. In effect there are 6 ons and 6 offs. WTF is a pair of ons and offs :?:

Now I know why you are confused as you think by on and off I mean main power supply to Boiler On/Off ...

Who's a clever boy then. If only you could have worked out how the CM921 works you'd have saved yourself 20-odd quid.
The above seems to contradict what you said previously:
Exactly my point the boiler is running 24 hours
Nobody said or implied that, so where did you get the idea that it would?

Isn't it obvious I am not interested.
Patently!

I just needed to know if I could use a simple time switch with this new boiler or not
Your claim that the CM921 only has 3 programme settings set the ball rolling. Wanting to have void time periods didn't help with your lack of knowledge of this type of product. You've now forked out 20-odd quid to replace what's already fitted and would do what you want - if only you knew what you were doing.

There 3 settings for ON and 3 for OFF also the same on CM927.
And you claim to have read the instructions?!?! You are saying there are 3 time periods. The instructions you claim to have read clearly state 6 (SIX) time periods. Do you understand the phrase "time period"?

with 20 settings or I should say 40 in your case
     I bet you're great fun at parties.

I have never said that. There are 6 time periods. In effect there are 6 ons and 6 offs. WTF is a pair of ons and offs

The problem with you is that you did not comprehend my explanations and problem but instead blabbing about your own solution which you think I should accept.

OK let me spell it out in simple words for you....

I wanted to replace the programmable thermostat with the simple Timer switch that would enable me to control the burner timing manually. I asked Whether its possible? which I know now as confirmed by @mikely here.

You are on about defending and imposing your nonsense about how good the Honeywell CM921 is and belittling me and making your own assumptions about the On/Off terminology... I am believe nobody is that thick not having a basic understanding of how the boiler works.

And about rambling again and again about the Honeywell thermostat 6 On and 6 Off nonsense and telling me that it can do what I want...... NO IT CAN'T

you know you favourite sayings "A battle of wits with the unarmed is no fun" ..... I did not have any fun..

Your contribution to this thread!!! let me sum it up for you...
