Faulty Remeha boiler

D-Hailsham wrote. According to Para 4.3, "d8" is a control stop, not "8" on its own.

Well i have 3 of these combi boilers all fitted in 2008. 1 was exchanged in 2011 due to a novice numpty engineer who did an alteration and the boiler melted (same day).

The installation manual supplied with the boilers is not that accurate and the internet manual is different from the original paper manual.

So my manuals say 8 and the internet (revised manual) says d8 but all 3 of my boilers will just show 8 when the user sets a low heating temperature, runs hot water then the flow sensor needs to wait until the over run lowers the temperature to below the user set temperature.during this wait 8 is displayed.

phew. :D

Thats interesting! What alteration did he make?

Who paid for the replacement boiler?

Thanks for clearing that up. My manual lists d5, d8 and d9, but all I have ever seen are 5 and 8. A quick check of the original on-line Dutch manuals shows that they are mis-translations. They should be: "05", "08" and "09".

code 8 is due to the flow being more than 5 degrees above its set point. resets it's self once flow temp has dropped. would explain why the boiler is always on with fan running.

this would normally be caused by either a restriction ( blocked filter) or the pump has failed.( seized, stuck, lack of water, air locked).

could be a knackered AAV at the top is the cap loose ?, if it is air & you dont get the air out of the top of the hex the thermal fuse could blow & if it does thats a new heat hex as they aren't changable

HI guys there is a lot of thought going in to my problem. The fan does keep running but wouldn't it stop when the boiler timer is not requesting heat, so the flow and return temperature did not matter and it would only show up as fault 8 if the pcb was faulty and telling the fan to run all the time?

Mr Agile.Tony.

This is what happened,i will keep it brief.

1.boiler not firing up,going to lock out.total break down.
2.tenant calls in the company i employ to deal with gas, plumbing, electrics, drains.
3.they send an engineer and a gas block, electrode and gasket are needed and ordered.
4.following week the above are fitted, boiler now firing up with hot water and heating just starting to warm up.
5.as soon as its working engineer and tenant leave property.heating is left on (winter).
6.tenant above smells burning and tries to make contact with below neighbours who are all out,so tenant asks the office people on ground floor (solicitors) if they can smell burning.they investigate then the smoke alarms start.
7.fire brigade is called, force entry to flat, identify source as the gas boiler turn off gas to all flats.they called transco who isolated all gas meters.
8.i get a phone call and attend i phone the service company explain the above and ask for the boiler to inspected.
9.they send a guy who says i need a new boiler  .
10.i ask my tenant the solicitor what should i do,at this time i have homeless tenants, destroyed boiler, destroyed front door/frame,kitchen needs decoration and all other flats requiring reinstatement of gas.
11.solicitor takes the job on,he contacts the service company setting out a claim also informs them he has a gas consultant (expert witness) on stand by to inspect the boiler in the presence of one of their engineers.
12.fault found by the gas consultant was the nuts securing the gasket cover were less than hand tight, allow products of combustion under fan pressure to be expelled behind the decorative plastic front panel.
a long list of other reasons stated but the main explanation was that the engineer did not test his work.if he tested his work it would be very obvious that something was incorrect.
13.no reply from service company, further solicitor communication saying they have 7 days to reply, after that a small claim will be started via the court system.
14.still no reply and court action started.
15.i get new boiler and all other repairs complete, tenants now back in residence.
16.sum of £4850.00 entered on claim.all figures with receipts.
17.still no reply.
18.service company settles the day before court case via bank transfer to my account.

phew.

Hi I 'm not a heating engineer - no idea about your problem.

I just wanted to share some advice - which might be irrelevant anyway, in this case.

It can work out to pay Heat Team to do the repair and sign up to their 12 month thing. I can't remember the details so check wih them but I think that covers all parts and labour on as many call outs as you want... within the period. For £250, payable in instalment £25 per month.

OK it may be cheaper to have a local engineer come ot and replace one part but if several parts are replaced and several call outs it can quickly mount up - and you can pay heat team in instalments - that's always nice!

You know Heat team, cover this product, Baxi etc...

Problem found!!!!!!
So simple and not in any of the product information.

On top of the diverter body you will see a glowing light which means
it is in hot water mode, the boiler was stuck in hot water mode, so by just moving this slightly allowed the boiler to switch to heating mode.

There sorted.
