Is the yellow plastic dipstick guide breaking into little bits a common problem with these?

Is a new one an option or is it searching round for a scrapped one?

Do they pull out or just fall apart again like this one?

Its not particularly usual - unlike Citroen / Peugeot dipsticks where the plastic 'dipper' on the end of the stick breaks off and falls into the sump
This makes dipping the oil somewhat haphazard!
John :)

It is one of the less common faults of the A6 but it does happen more than it should. You could try a breakers for an old bit but it is likely to have suffered the same problem.

New parts are easy to get but this would be a main dealer part. Speak to the parts desk and they will be able to look. They may need you engine code although the should be able to look it up based on the reg their records don't always go back that far. It is on a white sticker in the spare bay.

Audi dealerships....crap..... I love Audi's and had a few, but the help you get from the dealerships is total nuts. I need a battery for a 55 plate Audi A4 cabrio and they could not find from there records the one required without wanting the chassis number, then after giving them that number they said as the car had not been purchased from them or work been done on it by them they had no record of the car and couldn't help....What €8@#......

I find each one hit or miss. Some are nice and friendly and really helpful, others are staffed by complete plonkers.

.....and as for parts, forget it. Main dealers scarcely stock more than filters these days.
'Two days delivery, mate - if I VOR it special, like'.
John :)

I totally forgot. All Audi dealers and Audi specialists use TPS for their parts and most branches will serve Joe Public also. I used to get my parts direct from them, cuts out the middle man. They carry loads of stock and can get anything else next day(except special orders or rare bits)
