Hi, sorry for jumping straight in with a problem as a new member but we're having some issues with out washing machine and I want to try and sort it out before it turns in to a big problem.

Basically when a wash cycle starts it seems to be struggling to fill with water and sounds like water is being pumped in in very stop start manner, rather than continuous. There is also a flashing of lights on the front panel. Although it is doing this to start, it does seem to be completing a cycle in the end.

I have read lots of stuff about pressure switch problems so I've taken the top off the machine and disconected the tube from the pressure switch. blowing in to the swicth give an audible click, then another when you stop blowing. Also, blowing down the tube you can hear air the other end so doesn't seem to be blocked.

My description of the problem isn't great so I've shot a little video, which my help in someone giving me some pointers.

Thanks for looking and any advice

You got a Presure switch fault or a pcb fault. Disconnect the tube and see if that cures it. Only fill it for 15 20 seconds. Otherwise it will leak.

Hi Rocks, thanks for the reply. When you say disconect the tube, I take it you mean the tube to the pressure switch?

If so, how do I then go about only filling it for 15-20 seconds?

Sorry if dumb questions but never had to do anything with a washing machine before, other than fill it with cloths and turn it on.

Cheers

Yes pull tube off. Then put it on a wash to start filling. After 20 seconds turn mc off otherwise it will over fill and leak. Does it still make the noise.

Excellent cheers. Ill try that when I get home from work tonight and let you know how I get on.

OK well now I'm really not sure what to say.

I unhooked the tube going to the pressure switch and let the machine fill for about 15-20 seconds. It was still filling stop-start-stop-start-stop-start, however I wasn't getting the disco warning lights shown in the video (Although the door light and wash light were flashing) .

So I connected the tube back up and let the cycle continue, after about 5 seconds more of stop-start filling the full disco warning lights like in the video started again.

At this point I turned the machine back of, then back on and just run the pump out programme. Out of interest I then set another wash cycle going just to watch the warning lights and see when the full on disco lights kicked in with the tube attached from the start. Low and behold, no warning lights and the machine filled normaly. So I pumped it out again and started again, and once more the machine filled completely normaly.

So at the minute, the machine appears to be working, although I can think of no reason at all why this would be the case

I'm fairly sure this cannot just have magically fixed itself, so any other feedback as to what the most likely issue is would be much appreciated.

Cheers again

Ill tell you the answer in 48 hrs after you done a few washes. ;)

:D Theres only 2 of us here so not sure there'll be a "few washes" in 48 hours. But I've got a load on now and it seems to be going fine.

I'll post an update in a few days, unless it gives up again in the meantime.

Thanks again for your help

Well it was definitely false optimism. 2 washes later and it's back to where it was in the video, so not fixed at allv :(

Any other ideas on whats up?

Check the inlet valve has not got grit in it. Otherwise Presure switch needs changing.

Would the fact that the fault still happened with the tube to the pressure switch detached not rule out the pressure switch?

And possible stupid question, where is the inlet valve?

Thanks again for the advice, hugely appreciated.

Follow the blue inlet fill hose. That's the valve unscrew it and see if there's grit inside it. If not you need a new Presure switch.

Not got round to checking the inlet yet, will do at the weekend.

Quick clarification though, so it could still be the pressure switch, even though the problem still occurs when the tube to it is disconnected.

Cheers

Yes. You could unplug the wiring plug on the Presure switch. But it might error out straight away. Does it still do it on the rinse only program.
