I'm a joiner who works on a building site and i have combo van i use to carry my tools to work. I'm looking to change to a car as i need the seats for my 2 kids,so i'm after any suggestions on what car would be best suitable. I carry a tool bag, cordless drill,a couple of nail guns, tool pouch and me flask.Any ideas?

depends on what your looking for,i too am a chippy and i used to own a mk1 ford galaxy brilliant car swallowed anything and everything.
then got a mk1 zafira totally bomb proof that car was, then a mk2 tdi galaxy, mid life crisis and got a lexus is200 no good for anything apart from a few bags of shopping now got a ford smax, again takes all my tools.

Citroen C5 estates are very large, cheap and comfortable and the 2.0. Hdi is very economical. The Peugoet 406 Hdi estate is also a very good and fairly roomy car car.

The Mk7 Honda Accord estate has a massive boot. It is the same size as the Audi A6 I had prior. The petrol engines can survive a nuclear war but the diesels, whilst nice to drive, do not share the usual Honda reliability.

They are pretty cheap too. Two years ago I bought an 06, 35K for £5K with 12 months Honda warranty.

Audi A4 Avant, treat yourself .........

Go for the 1.9Tdi rather than the 2.0TDi especially the earlier ones. It will be back a bit in years and quite high mileage at that money, but they are well fit for that. Try and get a full genuine service record, if the budget will stretch. A6 Avant will come cheaper, but they are very big? Might be as well to stay away from the A6 All Road, it has air suspension

You might loose a few customers when they see the Audi, But sure that's the way !! Have a good excuse, "I bought it crashed" usually works quite well.

Good Luck

The wifes trying to palm our 56 plate seat leon on to me so she can get a new car,not sure that will be practical enough though.

Well that's that (the Audi) knocked on the head .....

Old V40 volvo go on forever , big load space and if you are lucky full leather and heated seats. ;)

I'm also preferable for Mk7 Honda Accord,
Very good petrol engines for surviving,

If the wife's got a car, why not get a van for work?

Fully tax de-ductable.
