a couple of good quality ir cameras and dvr no swann rubbish, good security lighting will allways give you the best pictures.

You want 640tvl 1/3 chip system, Ir 30m+. with 1tb dvr unit channels all depends on how many cameras, don't forget the correct cabling not the cheap stuff! wiring is just as important as the lenses chip.
you can get ir flood lamps as well which will light up the garden like the moon reflecting on snow... But to the naked eye is still dark. So no complaints from neighbours! Also have you thought about security fencing at the bottom of the garden? Anti climb paint is a sod to get off!

I can get you stuff at cost if it helps....

640- 700tvl they do 800 now but you don't need to go that high 640 sould be more than enough for what you want.

If you don't understand the difference in Tvl let me know I have a whole PDF Boucher that you can read which in it will advise the difference.

Also explains the chip systems as well. Sony, are a good brand.... I have Sony bullet and dome on my house obviously I'm in the trade so it was easy for me to do this job....

You shouldn't need to pay anymore than £500 for 4 cameras and a 1tb 8channel DVr plus cabling and 1 days labour if you got it done by a qualified insured installer. Depending on site survey obviously!

Hi any info at all would be great I'd rather fit it myself due to not wanting cable to show so where possible it will be hidden also cash wise I've not got it at moment to pay someone , I'm thinking 2 or 3 cameras could even be four depending on there's any blind spots, one on the front of house one on the side to cover conservatory door where they broke in also one to cover the rest of the rear garden ,I'm quite good once I know how it all works ,I want small but quality cameras for 24/7 ,also recording device which il properly place in my integral garage ,

If you get a pro in they should hide the wires and run them properly! They should run the cables in conduit around the building so it can't be tampered with if they don't run them through the building under floors ect.
If they don't then they are just cowboys and that ****es me off and they will charge you double what a normal contract should be!

For what your describing bulletcamera to cover the garden 2.9 or 3.6 is a wide lense. You can get manual focus and zoom which are really good I have those in my garden. Back door vandal proof dome cam, make sure none of your cameras touch public space! Allot of people forget they will need to get a sia licence if there cameras are constantly recording and recording public space! It's public space surveillance level 2, the sia can get funny about that 90% of the time they don't care it's when complaints happen. Ect
Dome on the front depending on what you want to cover...

4 channel DVr 1-2tb....

Cost wise...

700tvl ir bullet 1/3 chip manual zoom and focus...£75
700tvl dome 1/3 chip £36 per camera
Cabling 100m shotgun £25 or ready made stuff ( try and stay away from)
About £9 for 30m don't quote me on that price though as I don't use it.
DVr 4chl 1tb £159.99
Conduit £1.55 every 2m don't for get junction boxes £2.55 a box linkage for conduit £0.55 per link, elbows£2.39 per elbow. Saddles £0.40 every bag 2perbag.

I would have the DVr in the house! Office would be ideal.

Great info ,could you point me in the right direction for models n makes of what I need including cable ,cheers

If I was a novice I would use the ready made bnc cable. With the duel power often called rg59 but its not... It's a cheap replacement for it. But just as good for DIY jobs.

Makes Sony, bosh, lg samsung. bottom line is they are all sony chip systems though and made is the same factory over seas, some in california and some in the east. you can get end of line stuff cheap as on eBay with 12months warranty. Ect. Just make sure it's a uk seller as customs might sting you for import charges of electrical items.

I will post some links to some decent ones later for you.

Well out of reach mine are at 3m. I install at half the house height on domestic and full building height on warehouses. But those are r485 controlled cameras with op zoom.

Have a look at IP cameras, I got a good quality 2 camera setup running for £200 (ebay sourced, no dedicated recorder though). You'll need a PC/NVR to record and some networking kit to make it work.

Quality wise the picture is much better than my friends Swann Pro 700tvl system (approx 4x the resolution, much sharper and less noise at night) Build wise they have been running since Jan and have never dropped out.

I went for IP cameras after looking into Analog and was told theres no point getting good resolution cameras (6-700tvl) and getting a DVR that cant make use of it.
DVRs record in CIF, 4CIF(VGA) or D1 resolutions to make use of 700tvl resolution you need to be able to record all channels in use at D1/4CIF resolution. These are known as "full D1" recorders and generally cost much more.

In my case, the IP solution was working out cheaper (i had a spare PC and a network switch (8 port~£15)) and giving 4x the resolution. Easily scalable too if i want to add more. They come with their own recording software (upto 1600*1200px per channel) and can be viewed on my phone or can log in and view/edit them from any web connection.

This is another option yes. But the DVr also records in pal. And you can access it through the IP address when connected to networks, you can control from pc as well. S you get bets of both worlds. Yes d1 DVr systems are high spec but you don't need to go that high. However d1 dvr systems arent expensive my cheapest one is £99.99 without hd with 500gb its £169.99 but some client prefer to sauce their own hard drive (HD) my home system isn't a expensive one i have a nice easy 8 cam system on my house, it does me and the record quality is good. Play back is fantastic.
And I didn't spend the earth on my system is the one above but 8 chl 8 cameras but rg59 shotgun cabling. The cable also determines quality.

So d1 system or pc I know which one I would choose!
