I've recently purchased a property that has an LPG fueled, sealed, central heating and hot water system. It also has an immersion heater (bottom of tank) that I want to use on Economy Seven rather than using the Worcester LPG boiler - reserving that for CH only.
I figure with the high cost of LPG, using the immersion on Economy Seven rate would give a cost saving?
Any comments suggestions appreciated.

Without exactly comparing current figures I would expect nat gas to be about 5p, LPG to be about 10p and electricity to be about 15p.

Therefore, unless you can work out that its more economic to have an off peak electric tarriff, then I think it would still be cheaper to use the LPG.

Hi Tony,

Thanks for that.

I'm with Scottish Power and my tariff has an Economy 7 rate of 6.628 per KWh, so I'm figuring that's less than half the cost of using LPG at 45p/l?

I really need to find somewhere I can do a real comparison.

Yes, that will probably be a bit cheaper to use off peak IF you alkready have that tarrif.

But if you do have that tarrif then the on peak electricity or standing charge extra will probably balance out the saving over LPG unless you use a LOT of hot water !

Yes, that tariff is part of the deal I set up at Christmas, and yes, the daytime rate is 15.03 per KWh, and there's a standing charge of 26.090 per day - they make sure they get their money out of you in the end

So, I reckon I'll turn the gas H/W off for a month and try the Economy 7 Immersion heater and see what difference that makes. Still wish I could find a site that does the math for me.
