Recommendations for hardwood floor

We've got pages and pages of decent quality information

Fantastic, thanks. I've read through those pages now and bought your "buying guide" - it does contain a lot of useful stuff. I'm still not completely clear on the tongue and the bonding, however:

1) What fault/failure do the additional layers of ply above the tongue correct/prevent?

2) Is there any visual inspection I can do, or any question I can ask of a supplier, that will help me determine the quality of the bonding between the wear layer and the backing?

Many thanks for your help,

Lucian

It's down to the stability of the whole board. If the T&G is right below the top layer, the forces applied to the board can snap off the tongue - due to the lack of "body" between the T&G and the bonding between top layer and backing.
Just look at the picture on this page, showing a quality construction.

As for testing the bonding: we have a cut off board laying in the garden for over 1 year now. The surface has of course been effected by the outside world, but there's nothing wrong or damaged with the bonding. A simpler - quicker - method would be to insert a cut off piece in a bucket of water for a few days and see what happens.

Cool, thanks for the information. I'll give that a try with some samples and see what happens :D

Sorry but there are no prices or any info on what lengths the wood comes in.

This is going to sound like a dig and it probably is, but your mo is always to put down others to try and make your product look good. But then you don't back it up with information.

I also find your web site very hard to navigate / work out what you are offering? are you a supplier or are you a installer or do you just clean/ refinish floors.

Just my 10 pence worth
