i was trying to fit a new light fitting and sucessfully wired the earth and live wires together, pop sound from somewhere, changed fuse in main board, rewired old rose back in and have no power in half my upstairs lights and bathroom fan, help

Sounds like you've got a loop-in system and not looped in the power to the rest of the lamps.
Have a look at the stickies for wiring on this site and compare with your own wiring. You should have L, N (and perhaps earth) going into and out of the rose. From the L will be a wire to the switch. There will be a wire coming back from the switch. This latter wire goes to its own connecting point and into that copper block the flex from the fitting is a connected. The other wire in the flex is connected to the copper block with the neutrals. Earth connects as L and N if present and to fitting if required (must be if metal fitting).[/b][/u]

You have got a wire wrong in your terminals. WITH THE POWER OFF locate the switch wires(you should have a red/brown and a black/blue, put the other lives together along with the red/brown switch wire and the black/blue switch wire to the brown of the new light. put the other black/brown wires in the other terminal along with the blue from the new fitting.
Theres at least one every weekend.

this is what i first thought, wired old rose back as it was to start, no power in any of the 4 lives coming out, checked back to wiring in other rooms not working until room that works, seems ok and power in all live wires
My guess is that the pop you heard wasn't the fuse going.
I don't think you should try fault-finding yourself, quite frankly if you are the sort of person who connects live and earth together you are the sort of person who should get an electrician.

there is no power coming through any of the live feeds, i have traced it back to my sons bedroom works fine, bathroom doesnt, i am assuming there is a problem between these two rooms, how can i find it, any suggestions please
bit out of character, but i appreciate what you say, but if it wasn't a fuse what do you think it was going pop, and how do i discover it, also could the problem be with a swith or is it more likely to be with a rose
Most likely in a rose rather than a switch, the short you accidently caused generated a high current and could have blown a connection or even a cable elsewhere to the light you worked on.

Have a good crawl about with a good high powered torch or lamp (with power OFF) and get suited and masked up too.

the lights that are working are they roses, with the power off an inspection within them may expose the problem
That depends on who is looking. I suspect that at the moment there isn't, sorry.
Heres an idea, try taking a photo of the wires at the rose that you tinkered with, post it here for all to check. Then do as Securespark says, full ppe, crawl through loft looking at stuff.
When you've had enough of that, check back here for the answer
