Is there a special place where joiners/sparks/roofers/plumbers talk?

What is it with gas fitters and this forum that make them so special? Delusion,probably...winds me up..Anyone know of a site where i can talk to like minded gas fitters without having to join a secret society of inadequates? I`m a gas fitter.

If you are a Gas Fitter you will understand why they prevent layman from accessing the forum,

If 'you' are a (Qualified) Gas Fitter 'you' can gain entry.

"winds me up" you are easily wound up.

....and as for calling your Gas Safe colleagues inadequates, it's a cheap shot.

Its a hidden forum as a lot of what is disscused would lead to DIY efforts at gas and also A LOT of work lost through people doing their own repairs. Why does something that you dont look at wind you up? If you really are GS reg get yourself in. There are some very knowledgeable people in with a lot of experiance and advice I have learn a lot from the people on there.

The combustion chamber is just for registered gas people to talk about their interesting stuff that none of us understand, we aren't allowed in there!
We (as in electricians) don't have a closed forum, nor am I aware of joiners or roofers having one either.

I guess they would rather see people do their own gas repairs/work without any advice.

Why should these overpriced people care one hoot if it goes wrong and kills innocent people.

It is a fact that people do (quite legally) DIY gas but have to do it without any help. I am surprised that the forum owner even entertains this secret society. It's not like giving advice would be illegal or carry any threat to the advice giver.

They would probably prefer people leave gas work to someone who knows what they are doing, has had experience and knows how to do the job safely.
DIY gas work in itself is not illegal providing the person is competent to do the job, as in any field it is how to show you are competent.
Asking relatively simple questions doesn't inspire confidence in the job being done safely.
I can do certain things which I would deem myself competent to work on simple things like cleaning the pilot light on my fire but wouldn't dream of opening my boiler up to work on the internal gas parts.

no we'd rather they didn't try it at all, less like.y they'll be the next news item of CO or other gas related fatality

Overpriced, shows how little you know

Some people will have a go at anything, doesn't means its right that they do so or should be encouraged. Some things are well within a DIYers capabilities, others are not, gas work requires a level of knowledge and experience(competency) not just the ability to check gas pressures.;)

I dont think this is a very constructive comment - especially as you haven't been a member so have no idea how lucky you would be to have a forum that is not thrashed by trolls & DIY numpties.

You have no idea how much you don't know about the gas industry at the moment - a few months in the CC you will have realized how much you dont know & will be extremely great full you are a member.

Try it for 6 months then call us a secret society of inadequates - but I feel you wont.

You will be made welcome. Come & see what TB 008 is really all about?
