My parents have an alpha 240P combi boiler.

My dad says the system bar pressure was low last night and opened the loop to top the pressure up to the green zone on the gauge.

He went to bed, this morning the needle gauge read zero though the rads were warm from when the must of come on this morning.

I’ve opened the loop for 30 seconds the needle raises and boiler then clicks on but the pressure drops again roughly after a minute or 2.

I am assuming a major leak, but thought I’d ask on here first as it’s a Sunday if anything obvious on the boiler to look at?

There appears to be no signs of a leak (well no water leaking though the ceilings). However suppose could be leaking downstairs under the floorboards?

There is a pipe called the pressure releif which will come out of the boiler and go to outside have a look and see if you are losing the water through this pipe (connect a balloon or plastic bag over the outlet them pressurise your system again and see if the bag fills with water)

Many thanks for the reply

There is no water coming out of the pipe.

We think it could be a leak in the front room under the boards.

A strange noise seems to be coming from there, but stops when the loop is shut off. Going to get the boards up to have a look for a leak.

Has anyone been working anywhere in the house, new carpets or flooring etc ? threshold bars on carpets are a common culprit, if you are losing pressure that quick it sounds like a damaged pipe rather that a leaking fitting.

Found it the leak. One of the plastic pipes rad pipes under the boards has come away.

The plumber going to fix it in the morning. Least know what it is now!

try just pushing it back in firmly it sounds like it wasnt pushed home properly when installed, you cant do any harm if it doesnt work

Thanks, managed to put it home again and the pressure all holding ok. Hot water again!
