Sleeper retaining wall

Hey

I am going to be putting in a sleeper retaining wall and raised beds next week. Should i go for hardwood or softwood sleepers and what's the difference?

hardwood will last longer but they are more expensive and very heavy. Reclaimed ones are too heavy for 1 man to lift.

Hardwood look better too in my opinion.

Softwood are cheaper and very easy to work with as they are an easy lift for 1 man and cut easily meaning they are generally much faster to lay.
