what if other countries do not want democracy bringing to them via the US, by force? why do we have to go around the world inflicting our values on other counties?
Because we elect religious nutters to lead us who think it's their mission to spread the word. Then there is the matter of natural resources. A military industrial complex to feed. And the president of the US has no real power within the USA, so he ends up throwing his weight around the rest of the world because it's all he can do.
The ironic thing is that the democracy we help to impose on others is usually more democratic than our system...

Back to the title of the thread, does it actually matter (in this instance)?
IF the two suspects did actually do what they were / are accused of, that is a terrible, indiscriminate crime against many innocents (including kids) - the perps would have known that they would not only have killed people, but also maimed others for life. Kids.
IF they did it, they deserve the most hefty punishment that can be thrown at them. Perhaps designating their crime "WMD" makes it more likely that (if convicted), they get what is coming to them.

How about making the punishment fit the crime, rather than making up a crime to fit a just punishment?
However in this case I believe the use of 'WMD' means the death penalty comes into play as opposed to life (meaning life), so unless you believe in state murder and dropping down to the terrorist's level, this is just about the good old USA beating its worn out chest again!
