Its worn out, they are so cheap get a new one.
Without a picture not easy to tell you how to remove, the push itself probably has lugs that spring out, try to pull it out gently, then with a flat knife push in the tab, there will be one each side.

Usually the surround is just pushed on.
i would just rip it off and put a new one on, its broken anyway......
