WHEN BOILER IS TURNED OFF AFTER BEING ON FOR SOME TIME WE SOMETIMES HEAR BUBBLING GURGLING NOISE FROM BOILER AREA OR PIPES CLOSE TO BOILER IT IS VERY HARD TO PIN POINT ACTUAL AREA AS IT IS A BACK BOILER.WE do not hear it every time it is turned off which makes us think air is in system ?
WE HAVE CLEANED AND DRAINED SYSTEM,THEN PUT INHIBITOR IN APPROX 3 WEEKS AGO BUT STILL HEAR THE BUBBLING WHEN TURNED OFF(NOT EVERY TIME WE TURN OFF) I HAVE TURNED DOWN BOILER THERMOSTST TODAY TO 1 (WAS ON 3) AS ON HAVE READ THIS SORT OF PROBLEM CAN BE BOIILER THERMOSTST PROBLEM.APPROX 10 YEARS AGO WE HAD LEAK ON BOILER ENGINEER REPLACED SEALS AND HAS BEEN FINE SINCE,ALSO CANNOT SEE ANY SIGN OFF NEW LEAK COMING FROM BOILER.
JUST TO MAKE CLEAR THIS ONLY HAPPENS WHEN SYSTEM IS TURNED OFF.

I think you will find its air that you can hear. It is not being allowed to escape into the vent pipe and then over the tank. maybe you have a blockage in the vent pipe higher up. Get the vent checked and see if it helps.

Check the little plastic tank in the loft, it may be dry or isolation valve that supplies it may be turned off?

COULD YOU EXPLAIN WERE THE VENT PIPE STARTS AND FINISHES SO I CAN CHECK ,I HAVE BEEN IN LOFT SEVERAL TIMES TO CHECK HEADER TANK THERE IS ALWAYS WATER IN IT.

THANK AGAIN
ALOCIN.

]WOULD YOU BE ABLE TO EXPLAIN WERE THE VENT PIPE STARTS AND FINISHES SO I CAN CHECK IF BLOCKED,ALSO THE HEADER TANK HAS GOT WATER IN IT.

THANKS AGAIN
ALOCIN.

The vent pipe is the 22mm one that does a u turn into the top of the feed and expansion tank and should be connected in the system near the pump.

If the system keeps pulling in air the cold feed from that tank could be blocked which you should also find tee'd into the pipework in 15mm near the pump.

You can try holding a magnet on the cold feed pipe and see if it attracts to the pipe where a potential blockage could be.

Thanks For that,armo 74.
About 3 weeks ago i put system cleaner in header tank and left it in for about 1 week then flushed system and the added inhibitor, could the problems with a blocked feed pipe from central htg tank stiill be there after adding the cleaner.

Thanks Alocin.

It's no good putting it in the feed and expansion tank because it won't circulate round the system you really need to add it via a rad or if you have no choice but to put it in the tank you need to drain some water out first and clean the tank whilst its empty.

Try the magnet test.

I forgot to mention when i drained cleaner out of system the central htg tank emptied fully then filled up when refilling.

Does this confirm the feed pipe should be clear.

Thanks again Alocin.

It won't hurt to still try the magnet.

Just make sure you bleed every vent ,there may be one in the airing cupboard that you haven't noticed.

Start with the downstairs rads first then the upstairs ones and the pump.

Thanks to Armo74 and peterplumber12 I think my problem is fixed,I tried holding magnet on vent pipe section but no stick,so i started tapping the said pipe along its length all the way to pump with a spanner,i noticed prior to this both the vent pipe and the cold inlet pipe were both cold after doing the tapping they both got slightly warm at the bottom,I have turned central hgt on and off several times and have not had bubbling noise at all, when i turn off.
Thanks again for your help this problem has been going on for over 10 months i had just about given up.

Thanks

Well, I've been doing something wrong all these years then. I wish tapping pipes with a spanner to fix things was taught to me during my apprenticeship.
