I am going to replace a couple of solid doors with bifold doors. I am shortly fitting a wooden floor and wondered how the guide track for the doors is fitted. Is it just screwed to the top of the completed floor or is it sunk into the floor? Just need to know before I fit the flooring so that I can accomodate the track if required. Thanks.

I suppose the question I should be asking is do you have to use the guide track(s)? There is very little information on the web about fitting standard width (30") bifold doors between rooms (plenty on wardrobe doors). A bottom track would seem to present a trip hazard if not recessed.

I believe you do, otherwise the doors would sway at the bottom and there would be nothing keeping them in line on the floor to ensure a stable and smooth opening and closing motion.

The track allows for lighter doors to be used as it provides both a guide and some bottom load support. Could you perhaps sink the it flush into the new floor and keep the guide action without introducing a trip hazard??...pinenot :)

Yes, I will sink the bottom track if that is what is required. Going to get the doors, which are supplied with track, and take it from there.
