Hello i am not sure if this is the correct sub forum. Basically i have a downstairs shower room which has a completely enclosed shower cubicle. ie when the door is shut there is no ventilation at the top . Over time the wall directly behind which is the bottom of the landing has got damp patches and gone black and the paint peeled off. What is the best option for the shower cubicle, I thought about replacing the closed shower door with a shower curtain which will have some ventilation at the top but of course some water will come out. Or i put an extractor in the shower cubicle a low voltage one. Will this do the job? Also how do i deal with the wall that has been damaged. Strip the paint, sugar soap and then repaint?

Cheers

Probably needs to be re grouted and the silicone seal needs to be replaced as its black and probably perishes. I'd start with with replacing the silicone seal where the tiles meet the shower tray and up any corners.

Is there an extractor fan in the shower room and does it have a timer?

It should run for 20mins after the light has been turned off.

The only real permanent solution imho, would be to rip out, tank shower area and re-tile and get an extractor fan fitted to eliminate the problem completely .

There is an extractor fan in the room itself but it is on the otherside and as the cubicle is completely enclosed I think its best to put an extractor directly in the shower cubicle ceiling. I take it this needs to be a low voltage type?

By tanking i assume you mean putting some kind of waterproof sheet around all the walls that make up the cubicle?

If you do fit a fan make sure it is
A) low voltage
B) controlled by a humidistat
