My consumer unit came with a spare 40 amp module.
Ive got no use for it at the moment so could I put a fused connector next to the consumer unit and run a permanent fixed lighting or power-spur from it?
Would anyone in authority have an objection to this?

Perhaps a picture would help.

It's unlikely you have a spare RCD.
If you mean MCB then - possibly.

If you don't know, should you be wiring consumer units?

Re "authority".

It does depend on where in the UK you are.

But what you are describing is a new circuit and legally this is something that must be registered with and notified to the local authority.

There is a cost associated with this process, it would be MUCH cheaper to have a registered electrician do the work. He will have all of the test equipment needed and can self notify the works without a big cost to you.

Yes, it's possible.

Just a few variables to consider and

technically notifiable to the LABC.

Is it an RCD - RCCB or RCBO - or MCB?

Anything is "possible"

EDIT

A flippant remark.

But yes you could run the corect sized cable from the 40A CPD to a fused spur, and then use the output to power something else.
But you'll need to comply with Part P & BS7671 as there are particular requirements for sockets.

It just seems a waste of a resource when thers useful things that could be done with it.
Its an MCB
I wouldnt be doing the work myself
The bro-in-lo has Part P cert but is an argumentative SOB if he cant be bothered and/or thinks I have no knowledge on a subject.
But now I do

Thanks for the info

MCBs are about 4 quid a go.

Just bin the 40A, and replace it with circuit breaker the correct size, which will save you all the faffing about with spurs etc.

6A MCB is £2.50 from tlc. Depending which make you have. Cheaper and easier than faffing with a fused spur. Or just slap a 9.6Kw light on the 40a MCB. Melt all the walls in your house but you'll have a cracking sun tan! (Joke....)
