Anyone got one?-how much do you pay if you rent it?

Rents vary hugely. Council rents have gone up a lot in the last couple of years as they have to find savings. Some places are charging £100+ and plots are also getting smaller. Until a recent house move I was on a self-managed site and paid £25 a year for a full 10 rod plot.

Yes. There's a bit of a straw poll here that will give you an idea of the picture across the country. If anything the rates have gone up in the 8 or 9 months since.

Great link -thanks ceres
What measurement is the 'pole' they refer to?

Pole (or rod or perch) is the historical land measurement that's still used a lot for allotments = 5.5 yards. A full plot is generally held to be 10 poles which is approx. 250 sq. meters / 300 sq. yards, give or take. They're never exact.
