Anyone heard of Raytech International?

http://www.raytechinternational.com/line_protection/mcb_(type_b)

Type B MCBs at £1.80 +vat etc.

Appear to cheap to me but are they ok? They mouldings look similar to

After some 3A rating for boiler pumps. Could go for MK otherwise...if anyone stocks them.

Possibly Merlin Gerin/Square D/Schneider do a 3 Amp but too many part no.s and variants

A search on
"class action" Raytech
seemed unproductive.

You could ask for Mean Time Between Failures data but probably no maker of anything will supply this because early failures are a hidden cost of ownership and with this info consumers could make informed buying decisions.

Some regulatory agencies might wait for many fires before declaring breakers to be unsuitable.

Never heard of them, but they look identical to the rest of the cheap chinese tat flooding the market at the moment.

Schneider part number C60HB103

I wouldn't touch them with a barge pole.

And then if I couldn't find a suitable 3a MCB for the board, I'd use a 6/10a and then an FCU. Far safer than that POS MCB.

If you collect prices for similar sized breakers by reputable makers and this price is less than the top 75% of quotes, I wouldn't buy them.
Money talks.

That's not a bad suggestion. One catch is that, in a good few walks of life, those charging the top 75% (or more) prices will sometimes be those who are making excessive profits - in effect getting people to pay "just for the name". As you say, 'money talks', but that can be exploited - by getting people to believe (not necessarily correctly) that a more expensive product is necessarily superior.

I remember once reading an interview of an ex-employee of a UK supermarket who was asked what was the difference between the store's 'regular' and 'premium' ranges of food products - he said that the main difference was the packaging and the price!

Kind Regards, John

Worked for Raytech for several years. MD buys direct from China (same factories as some well known names!) so quality not an issue. Sells direct to customers, so no big mk up. Used thousands and no problems. All caravan hook ups use them. Always check operation and fixings to avoid China cheap copies.

If only assumption was true. Some big names are moving production out of China due to failures in quality control processes allowing sub standard items with "big names" to reach market.

I am not saying that applies to Keytech products.
