I have a fairly large uneven garden, and am in need of a mower. I'm wanting advice on whether a hand pushed mower would be suitable? I want an energy efficient option, would rather avoid handling petrol, and keen to stay away from exhaust fumes. Are hand pushed mowers a any good for big jobs, are are they best reserved for tiny gardens?

Well, "hand push mowers" are for people that find Gym membership to expensive. But, what they fail to factor-in is the cost of all the extra Weetabix they consume .........

You just cant compare a rotary petrol mower with the old cylinder push type.

Electric might be an option, but I'd bite the bullet and go for a little petrol. You can always plant a few trees to cancel out the pollution !!

As above - go for a quality rotary machine with a Honda engine preferably.....minimal pollution!

How much energy can you put out?

2000 Calories/kcals in an 8 hour day at 20% body efficiency gives 400 calories/8 hours = 50 calories/hr = 60w of power to mow your lawn.
At the other end of the curve you may put out 2/3 hp/500w for 60 seconds.

How much power does the smallest power gas or electric lawn mower put out?
