Hi All,

As of yesterday we suddenly get hot water from all of our cold taps for approx 30 secs before running warm (it never actually gets cold as such). This has been working fine up until now.

We have an open vented system with an immersion tank and 2 header tanks in the loft.

I have checked and the water supplying these tanks also runs hot!! Also checking the pipe that leads from outside to the main stop tap in the house - this feels warm as well when we run the tap.

Could it be a problem with the mains supply to our house or some syphoning going on from our immersion tank?

Our neighbours are not having any trouble.

Any ideas anyone?

very bizarre!

thanks

Is your immersion turned on? \if so turn it off.

Is the water in the cold water tank in the loft warm?

If the cold taps in the bathroom come from the tank then run the water until cold water comes out.

This isn't right, if the stoptap is under the sink whats the temp of the sink cold tap ?
If the water in the tanks is hot its probs pumping over, you need to get this sorted as it could (dont be alarmed) be dangerous. If its steaming turn off the boiler/bbu and get it looked at.

Hi.

All cold taps in the house were running very hot when first turned on, including the kitchen cold tap (situated next to the main stop tap).

So I drained the immersion tank (boiler heated), so there was no hot water in the system whatsoever. This has sorted the issue.

So it sounds like hot water from the tank is being syphoned whenever we run any of the cold taps in the house?

Could this be right and is this a common problem?

cheers

Sounds like a mixer tap/shower valve problem.

ok forget about what I said about the problem being fixed!!

Its still giving me hot water from all cold taps even though the immersion tank was emptied and hasnt been on since. So no hot water in the tank yet hot water coming from the cold taps for approx 30 seconds.

This includes the kitchen cold tap next to the main stop tap and the pipe below this stop tap is also hot during this period.

Could it remotely be a problem with the mains feed into the house somehow? Thought I'd ask before I call Yorkshire Water!

If your incoming mains is hot, there's something wrong upstream of your stoptap. You need to get in touch with your water supplier about that. If its hotter coming out of the cold taps upstairs there is a mixer problem (could be mixing at one tap and circulating to other single taps). Get cold mains sorted first as this could see it sorted.
