Hi, just had a new kitchen installed, oak veneer. However since we have started to use kitchen properly we have noticed that the oak is staining badly when used especially with oil based stains. Have noticed oil stain from a spill after removing food from oven & marks around drawer handle where bins are housed. The wood has been oiled, not sure what with. We are going to complain to them tomorrow as now it seems that we are afraid to touch wood and looks like it will mark easily with 2 young kids around.
What is the best thing to do to rectify this? What can we get them to do?
Any help appreciated. Thanks.

Hi, I would advise that you do 'something' so you are not accused of causing a bigger issue. You would not want to be accused of 'leaving it, causing it to be worse'. Contact the supplier and ask them to give you advise or a resolve. Do contact them ASAP, and in a recorded way - Email would be acceptable. It may be that your stained doors are going to absorb oil, as it is a natural material.

Thanks Prockie for a most useful reply. Have disscussed with kitchen makers today who have suggested a varnish to protect wood. Foxhole I have reported you to the moderators for rude and offensive comments. I thought this would be a good site. Unfortunately not so.

foxhole's reply might be sensible. Where is the veneer? I assume on doors and sides of cupboards. What do you spill on it? I have oak doors, lightly oiled, and I do not spill anything on them. I might wax them a bit.

If it is a veneered product I am surprised that it is not sprayed with some form of lacquer to seal it , (Especially as most veneers are put onto MDF and Plywood substrates) rather than an oil .

Personally I think you should have looked into the end product better.

If the company have built the Kitchen to your agreed contract What makes you think there is anything you can make them do ???..

My comment was neither rude nor offensive in any way , not to any logical reasonable person, I am indeed sorry if you are not one of those.
