Hi All - Just had my first service of our boiler in new house today. We have a combi boiler Gloworm 24i, with Combi Mate and Magnaclean fitted.
British Gas are advising us to get a new boiler as parts are obsolete for this boiler.
Just wanted to check on here what peoples opinions are - seems extreme to rip out a perfectly good boiler as the parts are obsolete - or so BG claim, anyone know if this is true?

You sure you've given the correct model description? 24i ?
Very unlikely though, that parts are obsolete. Come back with confirmation.

Hi guys, boiler model is GW 24Ci - no part is required, works fine just that BG say the parts are obsolete which doesn't sit right, must be around 10 years old but I would of thought parts are still out there!

Thanks Bella, winds me up that BG always try push new boilers on people! In our last place we had an old BBU changed out (not BG a local installer), and after a couple of years they were still trying to push on new boiler on us!

As with anything ever made, there will soon after manufacture be obsolete parts. Usually the cosmetic stuff like front doors, covers etc are the first victim of this, as these aren't regularly needed by the trade.

So he may be correct, it's just cleverly worded

There certain parts, mostly casing bits and cosmetic parts on that boiler that are obsolete, however, the functional parts are available.

So unless the front cover disintegrates into a pile of dust, the OP should be ok for a few years yet!

I'm assuming this is a BG service contract type deal?

If so, cancel it. Today.

For what you've paid BG over the past 10 years you probably could have had 2 new boilers out of the same money. Like all insurance/extended warranty schemes, it's a total rip-off. Your premiums are used to subsidise others who take less care of their stuff than you do, and what's left over just goes to inflating the company's profits.

Far better to be self reliant. Stick the money into a savings account and get your boiler serviced annually by a local RGI instead.
