does input 2 only work if input 1 is connected and has signal??

There are no inputs on a Sky box for signal. There are OUTPUTS ie a connection where a signal comes OUT. It's a small but vital difference... like the difference between driving down the motorway the right or wrong way.

So, to answer the question about the outputs.... RF1 OUT and RF2 OUT will give you the signal from the Sky box box no matter which you connect to. If you connect a TV aerial to the RF input then you'll also get Freeview via the Sky box RF outputs as well.

RF2 is the one that you use with Magic Eyes to control the Sky box from another location.

i was referring to the inputs of the incoming cables from dish?

Ah, well my apologies then. So many folk refer to any socket as an input regardless I kind of got carried away  Anyway, to avoid further misunderstandings then perhaps you'd better describe exactly what you are trying to do because a Sky+ box doesn't have the single cable mode found on Sky+HD boxes so it really does need two feeds if you want all the functions to work.

no drama's it happens to us all :)

was just really a case of I had no signal and it was because input 1 had come loose from the f connector and I was wondering why it didnt just continue a signal using input 2.
When I removed to re-terminate I lost all signal so it appears 1 must be connected at all times.

I was just wondering really if this was the case. Does input 2 record only or something?

Input 1 is the primary input. If it's in use, the Digibox will use input 2. However, if input 1 senses no signal, it will flag up a fault condition.

AIUI the sky+ (non HD) will normally use input 1 for viewing and input 2 for recording the exception being when two recordings are scheduled at the same time. If you want to use it with a single dish feed then AIUI you have to create a dummy recording to block input 2 and hence cause recording to happen on input 1.

Hi

On your Sky remote, press services to see the options menu.

Press 4, then Press 0(zero), then 1 then select to access the hidden engineers menu

scroll down to single feed mode change from off to on

then you should be able to record (one channel only not two)
