painting over leak

I have recently had my kitchen plastered and when it dried out it has identified a leak in the central heating system in the loft above. I have fixed this but after a week of dripping it has left a rusty ring marks on the ceiling.
Question is, before I emulsion the ceiling is there any kind of sealant that I need to apply first. Guessing something will show through if I don't.

Let it dry out for 2-3 weeks, then apply an oil based undercoat to the stain. Once dry the ceiling can be painted with emulsion.

Andy's advice will work in my opinion, but for the odd time that it keeps burning through, you can use an owatral solution mixed into the paint.
