Hi All,

I would really appreciate some thoughts on the quote below, we've requested 6 quotes and only received one and now I have pressure from the wife to get it yesterday:

- Sheet and plaster wall & ceiling, 8 down-lighters and fit extractor fan. Room is 3.5m x 2m and the plastering is only around 5m2 = £1310

- Fit bathroom suite & shower (units supplied by client), adjust pipework as necessary, fit new window, sheet and tile floor, 4 down lighters, extractor fan, make good plaster, tile bath area only = £3650 . Room is 2m x 1.8m.

- (Structural wall already removed and plastered in this current bathroom) - Make good plaster (10m2), disconnect suite, make good the floor under bath and box in pipes and make good. = £1830 .

- New soil vent pipe - Dig trench - 2.5m out to pipe and to 1m depth and make connection = £1250 .

Any help greatly appreciated!

Mate - without seeing the job its impossible to say, the question that springs to mind is why has only ! in 6 tradesmen actually offered you a price, and sequentially, why is that price way above your expectations? There has to be a common denominator....

Job unseen. Whoever gave you a price of £8040 is working for wages.

No building contractor with employees could make a profit at that price - and profit is the key to pricing, you are not working for wages, you are working for a profit.

Some garages in south Manchester charge £100+ hourly rate . Go figure.
