Painting some exterior french doors, existing doors rubbed down/burnt off, with a few new sections spliced in to the frame. Softwood.

Would I get away with using http://www.ronseal.co.uk/products/knot-block-wood-primer-and-undercoat instead of knotting solution?

The tin says interior wood, no mention of exterior. I would go over the lot with an exterior primer after I've done the knots.

Topcoat to be crown solo.

I'd use it if I had it in the shed rather than buy something new.

It doesn't even work on interior wood. I am in the middle of repainting some internal doors that I primed with it 3 years ago and every knot has bled through! Maybe they have changed the formula since then though.
I'm having to use Zinsser BIN to hide these knots now but would still recommend a good old shellac based knotting solution on bare timber before using the appropriate primer.

It's the man with the pink overalls. Where have you been? Hope you're well.

As luck would have it, found a small tin of ali primer in the darkest crevices of the shed. Must be 1980's vintage! Popped the lid and it went flying up through the air, with a light spray of the tins contents onto my face at the same time!
Don't know what it's composed of, but it had separated and needed a lot of stirring. Hoping it will be ok.
