We had some extension work few months back and ever since the work was completed, occasionally we have been getting smells from behind the washing machine and under the boiler (which are next to each other).

I have attached pictures of while works were being completed and after work has been completed.

Initally I thought it was to do with no U Bend present in the waste pipe behind the washing machine so I bought a white connecter for the 2 (as seen in the picture) however this has made no difference and we also can smell it very strong from the gap where the pipes connect to the boiler.

Any ideas what it could be?
A suggestion by a friend was to foam up the gaps and see if the smells still persists but I am guessing that ain't really resolving the issue but just stopping the smells from existing from that location which could mean it could find another gap to exit from.

The contractor sub contracted the plumbers.

The smell is coming from under the boiler (where the big gaps around the pipes are in the picture) as well, would a trap resolve this and what type of trap do I need?

I'd be getting the contractor back in Chris under guarantee. The only reason a bad smell ( sewer type smell?) would be coming up from there would be something isn't right with the drainage they put in IMO.
Unless there is a furry friend that has 'passed away' and that's what you can smell. Neither is a nice option unfortunately but if you can smell something then it needs to be investigated ASAP.

The smell is Musty and a maybe a bit stagnant.

It only happens once we have used the washing machine and not all the time its as strong.
Sometimes the smell stays confined to utilities section and 3 times so far in the last 2 months it stank the whole ground floor but as above, only occurs after using the washing machine...

Just to add -

We had an occasion of no smells in the first month as we weren't using the sink and dish washer due to pending of worktops to be installed.Could this be related?

The smell behind the washer stands out like a sore thumb; waste pipe, open at the top with an open tee joint with w white pipe just shoved into it. Condensate? I'm surprised that tee doesn't leek every time the washer drains.

The boiler smell is a little harder to diagnose as I can see no boiler in the plethora of (mostly inconsequential to the query) pictures you posted.
Presumably it's in the area with the stopcock in and what is presumably the condensate pipe, heading for the dodgy waste.

as others have said, get a trap on there, all those lovely sewer smells are venting straight into your room!
