Hi,
while waiting for a quote for a stove installation by a Hetas installer I'd welcome some advice as to what to line the firebrick interior of the fireplace with (not the flue!), we live in a 1960's property.

Fireplace dimensions are:
610mm wide x 355mm deep x 800mm height

Stove dimensions are:
462mm wide x 383mm deep x 641mm height.

Possible options: Leave as plain brick, render, tile (slate?), fireproof board, steel sheet.

As there is limited space between the fireplace and the opening the heat causing possible cracks if the walls are rendered or tiled I am thinking of a mild or stainless steel sheet backing for the internal rear and side walls of the fireplace opening itself - any thoughts / suggestions on this - also, what gauge steel would be suitable? Would a stainless steel sheet reflect much heat back into the room?

Thank You,

Keith.

Done properly then stainless would look really good but you'd be forever cleaning it, I don't know if it would reflect much back into the room though..The stove manufacturer will have minimum clearances to prevent the stove from overheating and these should be adheared to..... Far too many folk try to fit as big a stove in their opening as possible and are dissappointed when the stove doesn't perform as well as a smaller stove would..

I would leave the plain brick, just wire brush it if dirty & re point if needed, maintenance free!

I seen a stove shoved into an opening by a diyer and you could barely get you fingers in the sides or top.

How he connected the flue was a complete mystery if connected at all.
He had small children in his home.
