Phillips Whirpool Dishwasher problems

My Phillips dishwasher which is a Whirlpool has stopped working entirely. It is a model number 9420 and quite old (had it in 1997). The problem is, it simply won\\\'t start. We have tried turning it off and on, pouring water into it and the little green start lamp keeps flickering. Usually it has started by pouring water into it, hitting the start button which gets it going and the water drains, then the start button goes out and we press the start button again and it starts working and washing dishes. Now, even after doing all the above, it won\\\'t start washing at all.

Any ideas? I may not have another Phillips Whirlpool again. They aren\\\'t very good.

Not very good? It's lasted you 9 years which is a good innings for a dishwasher.
As to the problems you are having, check the wiring loom in the door for breakages, especially where it bends at the bottom going into the base.
You'll be hard pushed to find a dishwasher as reliable as the one you have.
