My Worcester boiler is 4 years old and has worked perfectly. Throughout the summer months it just heats our water when we press the 'extra hour' switch and there are no problems. Then a couple of weeks ago we switched our heating on for the first time, the radiatiors did not come on, at first we thought they needed bleeding, but, noticed that none of them were on not even warm. On checking the boiler the blue light which is normally on steedy was flashing. I turned the knob to reset and it flared up and everything worked fine. The problem is we are having to do this quite a lot. What I find strange is that we dont always do it, sometimes we just press the 'extra hour' button for heating and water and it works fine. Other times it has to be reset. Does anyone have any ideas. I will try to upload a pic of the boiler to give more of an idea.

worcester have made several boilers in the last4 years i think so.
name rank and serial number please.

Ok this is hot off the press and thankfully not to hard to upload. As you see it in the photo everything is working fine. When it goes off, the green light to the left is OUT and the blue light in the middle flashes. I turn the right hand knob anticlockwise to reset, it fires up and the blue light remains lit solid blue, the green light comes on and I just turn that same knob back to where it originally was, which is about 3/4 of the way round towards the MAXIMUM setting.

sounds like a diy fix will be difficiult.
ok after resseting it with heating on full and water selected wait in front of boiler and tell us if any unusal noises happen, wait for an hour if possible.
only diy repair is to ensure gas lever on meter is fully on and condensing pipe is not restricted.
when was it last serviced.
worcester have a fault finding guide in their literature which you must have or see their internet.
blue flashing can give help to an experienced gas engineer,ie speed of flash.or flash on or flash off at start up.
really a job for the makers ok they aint cheap but they are the experts.

Ok now a couple of hours later as I wanted to see. We have had the heating on after doing the reset. Decided to put it on for another hour and when I checked the boiler the blue light was flashing again. I reset this again (blue light now steady) but this time I waited and strangely I could hear this clicking noise, like a tapping on tin and then after about a minute the blue light went back to flashing. I can only presume that if I put the heating on (from the downstairs timer) then the blue light would have stayed steady but as the heating was off, and as I now waited, I could see that this is more or less instantly switching back off.
Hope this makes sense. The boiler was serviced last winter so this will be about 12 months.

I have left this now 24 hours. Switched on from the timer for 'extra hour' this morning and it has come on first time. Just done it again now, a few hours later, and I have had to reset.
I dont understand if there is problem then I would probably be resetting all the time, but as its not everytime this is quite puzzling.
Has anyone had the same problem?

this is one of those that you need to be in front of and testing!

When the RI starts flashing it has suspended its operation for a reason! It could be a gas issue, pcb fan or overheat ( pump/divertor valves) the clicking is probably the pcb stopping the operation!
This one is impossible to fix over the internet!

call out worcester £210 fixed fee or call out a competent person who can fix your boiler!

This dosnt sound good to me. But what I dont understand is how it works sometimes and not at others. Also the clicking only happens when I press reset but DONT switch on the heating, it clicks for about a minute and then switches itself off, but, if I reset and switch the heating on then it stays on ok.
Has this happened to anyone else.

I dont if this will help assist with the problem, but I was told to turn the whole thing off for a couple of hours, everything, even the electricity supply to it. After doing this I switched the electricity supply to it back on, relit the boiler, set the reset switch and the blue light stayed on and no clicking. I had not at this stage switched the heating or water on at all. I then did this for 'one extra hour' on the timer, and up to now it seems to be staying lit. The only thing that is different is that when I turned the know to reset, I did not put it as high as it had been but left this about in the middle.
Does anyone recognise this behaviour ???

Another day another ......
Switched on heating today, automatically went to the boiler expecting to 'reset' but hey presto, the blue light was steady so no need to reset. Now, this evening went to do the same and the light was flashing again. I believe there is supposed to be some sort of code in the type of flashes but the blue light just flashes on/off in evenly spaced flicks.
Any help would really be appreciated.

sorry to be blunt..but what are you waiting for?? with what you are saying no-one is going to come on here and say " it's your fan!"

You keep coming on and saying the same thing! as i said on SUN you need an engineer who can test the gas,test/measure heat transfer, test the pump/3 way valves!

Has the pump overrun been wired in correctly etc etc. If you ring wb at 4 yrs old they will send an engineer out for £210.00 but it may be a sticking pump! They will walk away!

You need to get a good engineer in there are too many possibilities on your system to diagnose over the internet!

First you seem quite confident 'ITS YOUR FAN'
Then you say it could about 3 million other causes.
Can anyone therefore explain how it sometimes work and how sometimes we have to 'reset'.
Surely if something is broke, 'its broke'.

Hi Nicetoseeyoutoseeyounice, (anyone else who may be able to help?) did you sort out the problem with the boiler?

....I have exactly the same issue and routine of reset, all ok for a while, next time blue flashing light (mostly off-flashes on, as the book says) then may stay on for days..then it starts again.

I do have an engineer lined up but not for a couple of weeks,

heres the video of what sometimes happens when I have the blue light not flashing..

Update.. the only way to start it at all now, this may give a clue to the problem maybe?, is to turn it on left knob clockwise, turn right knob left to reset then...push the heating advance button on the programming unit ..this stops the clicking and the green flame light illuminates and alls good.

Any advice would be appreciated
