Electrics gone out but fuse not tripped

I called western power, sorry I thought they were all part of NG. They said if powers gone out, they will come out and see if they can get it back on. fingers crossed!
they fit the boiler as we had no hot water of heating for several weeks, and rather then use the old electrical connections, they instead plugged boiler into the one of the other wall sockets which we have been using since we moved in for our TV in the bedroom, so we know that socket was working fine.

Maybe, but if so, why did it trip?
Western Power have just been and its been sorted. They pulled out a big chunky fuse, 60 amp which had blown. They took it out of a black box next to the meter. He said the wiring appears to be going next door to the shop and he thinks the electrical work they were doing may have damaged the wiring. He said very unlikely the boiler would have caused this.

Yeah, result! Nice one!
This is a little confusing at first sight!
We seem to have a house or ground floor flat with a takeaway on either side.
Seemingly the landlord owns the closed takeaway and allows the builders to connect to the house supply.
One would guess the supply in the closed shop has been disconnected for non payment!
Until you see some of the worst parts of many inner cities its difficult to imagine just how bad some of the buildings are.
Also bad that unqualified people are doing often unsafe gas and electrical work too.
In this case a tenant was moved into a property when there was no heating or hot water. That makes the property unfit for human occupation!

I suppose the comfort is it did blow, it could have gone in fire over the weekend.

I assume, safe isolation for maintenance, and emergency use for the house holder. The max distance of a meter from the boiler so as then don't have to hunt for it.
