My single electric light switch in the utility is temperamental and doesn't make the connection to switch on (though always switches off). Is it straight forward to replace? Obviously I would turn off the mains supply before doing anything. Is it just a matter of putting the right coloured wire into the correct place as before?

Could I let my 18 yr old A level Physics student help?

Switch off the mains and then undo the switch so you can look behind it. If there are just two wires then a replacement is a simple task. If it switches a light which has another switch somewhere or if the mains power is routed through the switches then it can be slightly trickier and you might want to take account of your skill level before tackling it.

As above, its usually a simple swop, but some switches are marked differently to others so

1. Make a careful note of what wires go where and take a picture!

2. Turn off the power at the MAIN SWITCH before undoing any screws that hold the switch on to the wall.
