Recently swapped my 40 ? year old Baxi (still working fine!) for a Worcester Combi in the loft and BG's system. Beginning to wish for my old system to come back!!. Seem to be talking to the Geek squad every week to keep it going. Have I bought a pup?, too much technology??.

Boiler efficiency ratings never seem to consider how many years your old "inefficient" boiler could run for before the inefficiency starts to cost more than the capital spent on buying and installing a new boiler plus its running costs.

If the equation was truly worked through you might well find the new unit cr4ps out and needs replacing before it has managed to pay for itself. Then the cycle starts again !

Still, the EU and their minions says it makes sense !

It's so true. Manufactures today could make a solid long lasting boiler.
But the bean counters are in charge so it's down to a price that the majority of people are willing to pay.

This post resonates.
Approx 6 years ago I swapped a twenty odd year old gloworm boiler for an ariston combi. Cost me £1200 pound fitted
Year 1 - pcb needed replacing £120
Year 2 - no cost
Year 3 - no cost
Year 4 - prv needed replacing £80
Year 5 - expansion vessel pressure gauge thermal insulation boards needed replacing £390
Year 6 - this morning internal fuse blown when replaced diverter valve and motor smoked and was quoted £400. So decided to put in a Worcester Bosch which is going to cost £1500

And are the boilers that the big six are fitting for "free" to pensioners etc cheap ones or expensive ones ? If the former then we'll all still be paying for them until the gas runs out.
