Sleeve Anchors - quick question

Had a Structural engineer specify M10 Sleeve Anchors for a project with a minimum embedment of 50mm

Can someone point me in the direction of something suitable??

I've got a 47mm x 225mm ledger being attached into 100mm concrete blocks and I'm thinking I need a min length of 100mm, so perhaps something like a fischer FSA 10 x 120mm - does that sound about right? Or can I get away with 100mm??

I cant drill any deeper than 75mm into the block for fear of it blowing out the other side when tapped in (single skin party wall)

Either of what you have suggested may be OK. However I would question the specification just to be certain. A 10mm hole diameter sleeve anchor has a M8 Bolt. I would expect the M10 to refer to the bolt size.

The Rawlok M10 x 75 sleeve anchor I have in front of me as I type has a M10 bolt but utilises an 12mm hole for the sleeve.

So long as you have 50mm embedment you are OK so a 100mm long anchor is the minimum OK. If it were me I would go for the 120 long.

I'll get back to the SE in the morning as you suggest.

Just for my reference - does 'embedment' refer to the length of the bolt in the wall BEFORE you start to tighten it up, or the length left in the wall once the wedge gets pulled into the shaft. Essentially the bit left in the wall gets about 10mm shorter when it goes in.

Technicality perhaps, but as I'm working on the minimum spec it all helps.

The sleeve is the bit 100mm long not including the wedge. So the actual hole needs to be a bit deeper when you start to allow for the wedge

the ones i used recently dont fit to a uniform depth once you start to wind them up but theyve all held up pretty good regardless..

I have to correct myself. The length of sleeve is what you are looking for to get that 50mm embedment. The 100mm sleeve anchor you actually referred to has a shorter sleeve than that so would not meet the specification regards embedment. (Which as you queried is the finished fixing depth)

In the end you may well have to use something like a
FSA 12/50 S which is a 10mm bolt through a maximum 50mm material and a hole around 68/70mm deep. There are others about around 115 long that may suit you better if worried about being too long

That backs up pretty much what we were thinking. Thanks for the info. I'm picking up some 10/60,s tomorrow to try out on an old block but like you say a 12/50 may tick all the boxes. Need to check with se who I think is a bit concerned about us going too big with the fixings both in diameter and length because of the single skin party wall.

Personally I'm tempted despite the hassle to go resin fix m12 so I can be a bit more picky about depth without needing to work to standard sizes.

I think that is absolutely the right thing to do. If it were not for the specification given I would use the 100mm anchors (actual about 95mm long when fixed) and in view of the wall, the M8 bolt size (10mm hole), but more of them than the larger fixing.

Can you not use "thunder bolts" drill the hole and screw the bolt into the wall, they are brilliant..
