Hi

I am hoping you folks can help us.

We have a Salus RT500RF thermostat and a Potterton Heatmax Combi boiler. The boiler works fine for hot water, but we are having problems with the central heating.

When we first turn the heating on via the thermostat (either manually or using the timer), the heating will always come on without fail. However, after what seems like am indiscriminate amount of time, the central heating will often turn itself off again. The screen on the thermostat will show that the required temperature has not been reached and implies that the heating should still be on. If I turn the thermostat right down again, leave it for a couple of minutes, then turn it up again, this seems to turn the central heating on again.

I am completely unsure what the problem is. As the heating always comes on when the temperature is first changed, I would not have thought it was a signal issue, but I am no expert. However, it seems like the signals to keep the heating on are maybe not being received? I have checked the receiver and the red and green lights appear to consistently be on.

Does anyone have any ideas of what the problem may be? Your help would be greatly appreciated.

Don't take this the wrong way but are you familiar with the boiler turning off when it reaches a certain temperature regardless of the thermostat calling for heat? Depending on the setting of the heating dial.

Thanks for the responses.

There is not set temperature when the boiler decides to turn off that I have noticed, but I will continue to monitor this.

As for the batteries, they are brand new Duracels so doubt this is an issue.

It could well be down to interference from other nearby devices, we will see if changing the frequency helps.

it doesn't help that we have not used the heating since last winter and since then we have had a new boiler, changed the batteries on the thermostat and had a smart electricity meter installed. Could this be affecting the signals does anyone know?

The set temp the boiler will shut off at is down to the dial setting on the boiler. If this is at a low setting the boiler will keep shutting off more frequently even when the thermostat is calling for heat.

Put the dial to the max and see if there is any change.
