Hi,
I have installed a pair of flood lights (2x twin 42w) but they are on a 2 way switch so only one has power at a time. I would like to have both with power (they each have a PIR) so is a 1 way switch suitable for connecting the two?

I don't think there is any necessity for a double pole etc - I have a 1 way single pole switch ready to install but thought I would check first.

Many thanks,
Jack

That sounds weird, do you really mean a two-way switch switching between them - so switch one way switches on light A only, the other way switches on light B only?

If so then you should be able reconnect the existing two-way switch so it just acts as an on-off for both lights. Can you post a description or picture of the current connections to the offending switch?

Yes, that is how it is at the moment.

I don't have a pic but basically, live from the fused spur comes in to the switch and L1 is live to light 1 and L2 is live to light 2.

Shall I just put the L2 in with L1 leaving L2 empty?

Thanks,
Jack

Assuming the live (line) from the FCU goes into the Switch Common Terminal or L terminal then both your switched live(line) conductors go into L1.
I assume that your neutral and earth also go through the switch back box and you haven't 'borrowed' a neutral from another circuit?

OK, I will do just that.

Just a query then - where would a double pole switch be suitable?

Sorry, I posted as you wrote this.

The neutral and earth come from the FCU.

Okay - just couldn't understand why you had introduced an additional junction (the switch) into the circuit when a switch FCU would have been all you needed.

Ah, the feed comes from the garage and the switch is in the house. It was the easiest way to source the power.

It could have just been a wire from the garage fuse box (which has an old style 16a fuse (mini metal fuse box) and is connected to a B16 on a new CU in the house) to the house but I read in another thread that this is the right way way to do it.
