Hi Guys,

I am a complete plumbing plum so really need your help.

For christmas, I am revamping my mother's bathroom. I have purchased a new towel radiator to fit to existing floor pipes (angled valves).

I assume that the towel radiator fittings are 15mm (does not come with valves but that was the size that they were suggesting I bought if i needed).

http://www.bestheating.com/milano-brook-anthracite-flat-heated-towel-rail-1000mm-x-600mm-7.html

I don't want to be messing about with the existing pipes and valves so I thought that I would just connect it (or in fact get my boyfriend to connect it) as is. I would just really like to have all of the fittings ready to fit over christmas (I don't see her often as I live too far away).

The (floor) pipe centers are 720mm. The radiator pipe centres are 550mm.

So I thought =

radiator (15mm fitting) to telescopic extending tails (15mm fitting) to compression elbow (15mm fitting) to chrome plated piping (15mm diameter) to compression nut (15mm fitting) to exisiting valve?

I am unsure if i need a compression nut at the end or a full straight compression fitting like this:

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=170766571880&ssPageName=ADME:X:AAQ:GB:1123

However, now I am concerned that the piping from the floor is actually 10mm (as my mother measured the circumference to be 40mm). I work this diameter out to be about 12.7mm (guessing 10mm inner diameter).

What do I do now as the valve will also be 10mm (if i am correct) and I don't want to drain the whole system to add new valves. I have come across some compression reducers but would not know what I needed or where to fit it.

Please please help!
Emma

The bit of the rad valve that screws into the radiator is 1/2" BSP thread (a reference to the size of the thread). This is the same whatever the size of the pipe the valve is connected to. So pipe size doesn't matter.

To connect to the new pipework, not sure what you mean by a 'compression nut'. You will need a fitting to connect to a 1/2" BSP male thread. I guess a tap connector would probably do.

A nice towel rail ruined by laziness with fittings. You'll regret not doing a bit more work and running the pipes directly to the rail.
