One with a thermostatic mixer, what is your flow rate and budget?
Yes a thermostatic one up to around £150-£200. I saw a nice Contour one in B&Q but they'd sold out, and a nice looking Metro one in Bathstore, but I've no idea how reliable they might be.
Do they all come with those 'S' or 'Z' connectors that often leak?

I hadn't considered a flow rate. It just needs to have an average flow. It will just have a fairly standard shower head, no jets.

Warning! If you are buying from B&Q check the return policy. They are getting really sh*tty about items taken back that are faulty. According to one member of staff, if you fit a shower and it doesn't work properly, you cannot return it because it has been used. So how are you expected to know if it works or not?
Also go for a brand you know. Some of the B&Q branded showers are made in China and no spares are available.

Tradepoint on the other hand is brilliant, just quote the relevant section of the Sales of Goods Act, can't see why it would ever be a problem, your consumer rights are protected by law.

I suspect that member of staff is talking out of their rear end, and are mixing up B&Q's general return policy, with your rights under the Sales of Goods legislation.
As for the shower. as it's a bar mixer and easily replaced, I'd either go for a cheapy (£40 -50) own brand/no name and bin it when it fails and replace or look for a decent brand where you will be able to get spares.
If going for a branded one, the look at those such as Mira, Aqualisa, Bristan, Grohe etc. All are decent long-standing companies
