Hi all, I have a 1930s semi detached house and while doing a number of things to the house with the floor boards up in all upstairs bedrooms there is a draft between the suspended floor upstairs/down stairs ceiling. There is a bay window at the front of the house which has a small roof which I believe is where the draft is coming in.
FYI the house is solid brick and has no cavity/inner leaf. Also the external brick work is rendered with NO cracks.
Firstly is this normal and by design to provide ventilation to the timbers?
Secondly I would like to pull the carpet up in each room at the external wall use a small amount of insulation held in place with a sheet of wood/plasterboard to the exact width and height of each section which in theory will block out air/draft from any possible gap.
Thanks,
Mike
