Hi all im new :)

Ive got a strange problem i hope someone may be able to point me in the right direction, for the last 6 month my thrust bearing on my alto has been whyning so i had last week booked off so thought il tackle it, i didnt skimp i bought a new bearing and new clutch too then it was only to do once, half a day goes by and the gearbox was off and clearly could see where the bearing had been rubbing on the clutch, i changed the bearing and fitted the clutch put it all back together and it was no better :( the new bearing was rubbing on the new clutch, so its had a new clutch and new bearing it had to be a gearbox fault so went to the scrappy and picked up a gearbox, stripped the lot again so now has the new clutch, the new bearing in the 2nd gearbox and the new gearbox fitted, the thrust bearing is still pigging rubbing but no where near as bad but still does it when the clutch is out, im at my wits end :( i cant think what else it could be.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance Phil.

The release bearing (that works the "fingers" on the clutch pressure plate) should rub on the fingers. You can see the shiny bit on the pressure pate, when you took the gearbox out. Any problem with this would give a noise when you apply pressure on the clutch pedal.
I think you have a noise when you fully release the clutch pedal? This maybe due to a problem with the input shaft on the gearbox, unlikely when its the same on two different boxes.
Or the trust washers in the engine has excessive wear, allowing the shaft to float. You can check this with a screwdriver on the engine front pulley. Checking for excessive in/out movement.
Can you locate where the noise is coming from, the back or the front of the engine?

Hi John i may take another look at the cable area see if that possibly could be the issue, other than that im out of ideas.

Thanks Phil

You would only hear the release bearing noise when the clutch pedal was pressed down.....is this correct?
John :)

Hi john no its when the pedal is up, when i press the pedal down the noise goes away, it was really noisy with the old gearbox on, with the gearbox i purchased and fitted its alot quieter, but still there.

Curious then.....the release bearing must just be kissing the pressure plate fingers causing it to spin - but with a new bearing I would have expected it to be silent, for at least a while!
If you grasp the clutch operating arm, can you pull it towards the front of the car a bit - showing that there's some clearance?
John :)

This is exactly what i was thinking but just didnt understand what could cause it, im going to try moving the arm see if it clears it and if so il maybe have the cable adjusted a bit to see if it helps.
