Updating some of my old and knackered tools, and i'm going to buy some new wire strippers. Hopefully some of you who are using these tools day in day out should be able to give some good advice!

Years ago i had a cheap and cheerful set of "automatic" strippers, which are long gone (lost/broken cant even remember) and for the last while i've had a cheap pair of "normal" strippers in this style:

Having realised cheap tools are a waste of time and effort i'm looking to get a new set of quality edge cutters and some new strippers, and i've noticed that CK have Automatic strippers in their range:

What do folks think of these, are they worth the money or should i stick to a decent pair of the "normal" style ones?[/b]

I wouldn't call them 'normal' nor would I use one.
These were the standard issue in 1980's Facom electricians tool kit but so were many other tools. Yes I have some but rarely used.

I have one similar to this and it was only £8 from a local electrical shop.
I would also advise DESL to try some, those are hard work.
A little better than the old Facom strippers but unless faced with a repetitive job where same amount of stripping done again and again would still use side cutters extra tools are just extra weight to carry around. Only auto strippers I use are for LAN cables for fitting the plugs and are built into the crimp tool.

You can't beat just a pair of decent side cutters. Once you have the feel to them you can cut and strip cable as quick as you like without changing tools, and you won't Nick the copper inside either. Only time I use auto strippers is occasionally if dealing with tri rated on a panel or similar as the insulation is thicker and harder to get off.

I'm still using a pair of "IDEAL" auto strippers, made in america. Used on M O D equipment for several years and still going strong.

Them CK auto strippers are great for stripping 1.5/2.5 flat twin and earth cable they take the outer sheathing off nice and clean and strip the inner cores with no visable conductor damage.
There also great for stripping round flex upto a certain diameter bought mine at ELEX last June for £10 from the CK stand.
