Hi guys, hope you can help me out. My dad has just rang me as he has been having issues the central heating in his house. What I've managed to get out of him is that the boiler has been tripping to overheat every evening and the pump keeps running even when the system is off (thermostat). I told him to drain the system and run some fernox through it but my knowledge when it comes to this stuff is very limited. Any suggestions?

Microswitch in motorised valve stuck draining wont fix it new valve head or a squirt of wd 40 in right place by someone who knows

It's probably a zone valve switch sticking.

Does the boiler fire occasionally too?

Not that I know of

I have just been told his plumber neighbor has said the pipes need doing and arranged a quote for power flushing, I feel that is a bit suspicious fix.

Get a second opinion , and if switch is stuck it will cause overheat trip as valve is closed and no where for heat to go

***update: Just found up the shower has been sounding funny too. Just a guess but I think maybe the valve is stuck preventing the shower (electric mixer) from getting enough water
