Hi.

I have a Valiant which will not heat the DHW.

With the CH off, turning on a hot tap causes a sorta whirring noise for a second then nothing. No hot water.

With the CH on, turning a tap on provides a small amount of warmish water and then cold. If the Boiler is fired up the act of turning the Hot water tap on kills the boiler. Turning the hot tap off relights the boiler for the CH.

I am not sure of the exact Valiant model but here is a pic if that helps.

Bottom line is can I do anything about it being a Handy kind of Bloke  or do I need a Gas Safe person to do it for me?

Thanks in advance

Dave

Sounds like a HW NTC fault, call a gas engineer to take a look as an electrical tester would be needed to test this.

If the NTC is recording less than 13,000 - 15,000ohms at room temp then that maybe what is holding the boiler off, given the fact you say you get a tiny bit of heat after the heating is on says to me the diverter valve is functioning.

That's rubbish advice on this model ignore. U have a vcw 221 ceased manufacture 1996. U will need a rgi for this as they r tricky. Unfortunately vaillant won't attend due to age

Do you even know if this boiler has a HW thermistor? Bunny man may not have mega count when it comes to thanks, but if I needed help on a vaillant, I would welcome his input

The problem with giving erroneous advice is that the person getting said advice may act on it making things worst for himself

For your info chum, the Vaillant boys on this forum are the most helpful and informative people you are ever lilely to meet.

Most of them have forgotten more about Vaillant boilers than I will ever know, and that's coming from an RGI.

I never doubted that for a second mate. Just no need to be so rude about. I've Learnt loads from the blokes on here. But sometimes the way they speak to people is not acceptable sometimes. There's no need to be like it.

Wardy wardy wardy , please don't be in denial , we all know you have two alias's.......and that goes for you too stink.

if you ever take one piece of advice handykindabloke, listen to the vaillant guys they know there stuff
